Take Time For Self-Care Today

When was the last time you took a bath? Maybe it was when you were a child. Perhaps it was last week? Either way, the noting of taking a bubble bath may not be the highest priority to you in the hustle and bustle of your daily life. Between work, errands, school, chores or any other task that takes away the bulk of your attention. However, if there was any day to take the time, draw a bath and relax – it’s today, January 8, otherwise known as “National Bubble Bath Day” . Today is mainly a way to help promote the benefits of self-care. Defined as “the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own wellbeing and happiness, in particular during periods of stress”, self-care is in essence paying attention to yourself and making sure you are taken care of.

But what does self-care actually look like and how can it actually help you?

  1. You can handle stress better. No matter what you are doing, you are more likely to handle stress easier when you are both physically and emotionally recharged. Self-care allows for you to take time to yourself and to help revitalize you to be the best you can be.

  2. It can make you healthier. While taking something such as a bubble bath isn’t going to make you any healthier than changing your diet or starting an exercise routine, there are still great health benefits. The number one benefit can be helping you to prevent chronic stress.

  3. It can give you an emotional boost. Taking the time to take care of yourself physically can leave you feeling good about yourself, which can boost your overall wellbeing and self-confidence.

  4. Enjoy some alone time. No matter who you are or what you do, everyone needs some alone time to help them unwind and de-stress. Using the time you take for self-care is a great way to not only relax, but to possibly do some self-reflection and meditation.

Now that you know the benefits of self-care, what can you start doing to practice it? Thankfully, there are a lot of ways to participate in good self-care practices, such as:

  • Taking a bath

  • Deep cleaning your pores

  • Getting enough sleep

  • Exercising regularly

  • Journaling

  • Taking a walk

  • De-clutter/Organize

  • Spend quality time with a friend/loved one
