Healthy Holiday Travel Tips
Traveling doesn’t have to derail your health goals! A little extra planning and a few simple strategies can go a long way towards making traveling both fun and healthy for you and your family!
Prep healthy snacks
Carry healthy snacks in the car, in a bag, or backpack. Easy snacks include fruit, nuts, seeds, whole-grain crackers, or home-made trail mix.
Pack your work out gear
The holidays are not a free pass to skip work-outs! Be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes, active-wear and a swimsuit (if swimming is an option). Resistance bands, work-out DVDs, and/or a jump rope; all can easily fit into a suitcase!
Carry a water bottle to fill up at gas stations or at the water fountain after airport security. Hydration gives the body a feeling of fullness, helping to prevent overeating and fighting feelings of fatigue.
Eat slowly, observe the surroundings, and enjoy conversation with company. Be sure to listen to the body and stop eating when full.
Sneak in more steps
When traveling, try to walk as much as possible! Use the stairs instead of elevators and escalators. Walk around the airport during delays or layovers. Walk around the gas station when fueling up the car during a road trip. Take a walk with family or friend and spend that time catching up.
